About

It started simply: I had screenshots, receipts, and document captures and wanted the text out — searchable, editable, pasteable. Looking around online tools, some required sign-up, some lacked batch recognition, and some locked features behind a membership.

Then I found PaddleOCR: PP-OCRv6 is free to use and offers three model sizes. The idea clicked — recognition can happen in the browser, models download locally, and images never leave the current tab.

Around the same time I saw products like ocr-app put on-device OCR on the web. That inspired me to go further: not just one image, but a queue, box overlays, and export to Markdown or Word for notes and docs.

That’s how ImgPeel (Peel OCR) came about — literally peeling text from images. It supports batch recognition, drag-and-drop and screenshot paste, copy-all, and .txt / .md / .docx export (plus zip for batches). Everything runs on-device — no account, no usage limits.
